Introduced in the early 1940’s for use in mountainous areas, this reproduction piece from Buzz Rickson’s is full of heritage charm. A cotton poplin outer shell has been used, which has water repellent qualities, and a boxy shape allows this piece to be easily layered up. All inner seams have been finished with piping to seal them securely, while a storable hood has been added with button fastening to protect from the rain.
Storage is not an issue with this piece, with four separate options on the front, each with their own closure device. On the back we find a large pocket which was originally intended to store supplies and clothes, and offers an inner shoulder strap which you can put your arms through to prevent the jacket from slipping back. In addition to this, the brand have included a long canvas waistband with metallic fastener, which helps to secure the load on the back of the jacket. Definitely one of the more interesting and nuanced pieces from military history, masterfully brought to life by these Japanese virtuosos.
